What is “The Atypical Family” about?

"The Atypical Family" stars Do Da-hee, acted by Chun Woo-Hee, who enters the scene with the Bok family. The Bok family is unusual and 'atypical' due to their superpowers and lack thereof due to modern issues that arise in the form of eating disorders, sleeping disorders, and acute depression. The drama's male lead, Bok Gwi-Ju, played by Jang Ki-Yong, used to have powers to return to and relive his happy memories but lost them after his wife died and he fell into deep depression.

When Do Da-Hee enters the Bok family, she begins to change their lives for the better, and Bok Gwi-Ju's powers begin to return to him. Furthermore, he realizes that he can interact with those in his memories and change the past and, consequently, the future. As plot twist after plot twist occurs, Do Da-Hee is revealed to have entered the Bok family with the intent of swindling them, while it seems as if Gwi-Ju saved Da-Hee in a fire that happened 13 years ago. As the plot unfolds, it is clear that things are not as simple as they seem, and the characters' ulterior motives and backgrounds begin to expose themselves, coming together in a climactic moment at the end.

Who are the cast of “The Atypical Family”?

Chun Woo-Hee, the star of "The Atypical Family," is perhaps most widely known for her popular 2023 drama, Delightfully Deceitful, where she starred as Lee Ro-Um in a comedic revenge drama. She was also the main lead in "Han Gong-Ju," a crime thriller, where she played a high school girl trying to escape her past and hometown. As Do Da-Hee, Chun Woo-Hee has been praised for her spectacular acting as the outsider who gives the audience a peek into the Bok family's atypical actions and the subtle double-life she holds as she attempts to repay a loan shark.

Jang Ki-Yong, returning after one year and six months of military service, makes his post-service debut as Bok Gwi-Ju. His most famous K-dramas include "Now We Are Breaking Up" and "My Roommate is a Gumiho." As he grows from depressed to deeply in love with Do Da-Hee, their romance blossoms perfectly. "The Atypical Family" is Jang Ki-Yong's perfect comeback from his military hiatus.

What happens at the end of “The Atypical Family”?

With shocking twists and turns, "The Atypical Family" 's ending is difficult to predict, but here is what we know. As Bok Gwi-Ju and Do Da-Hee follow their hearts and finally kiss in Episode 9, Gwi-Ju mentions death, and Man-Heum also has a chilling dream foreshadowing death. Due to the number of dramas previously where foreshadowing creates suspense and dread of the inevitable in the audience, one of the main characters will likely experience death or a near-death experience. To who it will occur and when it will happen is what viewers are waiting for with impatience and malaise.

Viewers are also held in suspense about Do Da-Hee's relationship with the loan shark and whether she will gain independence from him to join the Bok family. As with most dramas, it can be expected that Do Da-Hee will separate herself from the Il-Hong and demonstrate her loyalty powerfully to the Bok family and her love for Bok Gwi-Ju. However, the consequences of her actions, both for herself and Bok Gwi-Ju, will likely be devastating and possibly relate to the death that Man-Heum refers to near the end of Episode 9. All these events together jeopardize our main characters' happy ending.
