The final season of the Netflix hit show - YOU - premieres on April 24th. There is a lot of anticipation from fans as we await to see what the charming yet chilling serial killer Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) plans to do next in this final chapter. Penn Badgley has become a worldwide beloved star for his performance as Joe Goldberg over the past few years. He brought a serial killer to life that, despite his heinous actions, managed to touch the hearts of fans and casual viewers of the show.
Badgley’s performance was definitely a key factor behind the gigantic success of the show, as in just a few years since it came out, YOU managed to become one of Netflix’s most-watched non-original shows in their history. A few weeks after Season 4 was released in 2023, Season 5 was announced shortly after, once again showing its strong viewership that it was able to maintain. It’s not easy to maintain high viewership since the very first season, let alone grow your audience as the seasons go by. So with all of this in mind, it’s been a long wait for Season 5, but now it's only a few days away, and the marketing has done a good job keeping most of the story and secrets to a minimum, but here are a few things we know and what we can except from this final season....

What We Know...
Well, for starters, the season begins three years after Season 4 ended. Joe Goldberg returns to New York City, where it all began, after leaving London with his now-married wife, Kate. Kate's become the CEO of the Lockwood Corporation, and the pair seems to be living a happy life.
But marrying someone like Joe means you can never have a peaceful life, as the consequences of his actions from previous seasons are now catching up to him. Some past characters from Joe's past are also confirmed to return this season, including Guinevere Beck, Marienne Bellamy, and perhaps the second most iconic character of the show, Love Quinn.
Love was Joe's wife during Seasons 2 and 3, and what made that dynamic so intriguing and fun to watch was that she was also a "serial killer". Love was the girl version of Joe, but eventually, when they had a kid together, things quickly got out of hand, which ended up leading to Love's sad, but ultimate demise. So now, will the police finally discover Joe and arrest him for all the crimes he's committed and the people he's killed?
So many theories and questions we want answered already. Lastly, this season also promises to dive deeper into Joe's struggle and psyche to reconcile his past actions and childhood trauma with his current identity as a seemingly reformed individual.
A Killer Goodbye...
As anticipation keeps building for these next few days until the release of Season 5, it's also important to consider what this show has meant to its audience. Despite some controversial topics, the show sparked many, many conversations about morality, relationships, and the fine line between love and obsession. We're closing the chapter on a series that has challenged many of our perceptions and kept us questioning in real life what we know or think we know about love and desire.
I'm counting down the days to April 24th, I have been a massive fan of the show ever since the first season was released back in 2019. While it's sad to see such a beloved show come to an end, I have no doubts that it'll be a killer goodbye to Joe Goldberg.
