Mental Health

Sun, March 23

Just imagine you being in the exam room, next to your monitor shaking with nervousness and fear. As the clock ticks away, each question feels like a towering wave, pulling you under the weight of stress and anxiety. You feel like you are in a mental marathon, where you can't find the clarity amid the chaos. Terrible, yet relatable feeling, right?

An exam, in its most creative essence, is not just a quiz of knowledge—it is a stage, a performance where the mind steps into the spotlight and tests itself. Napoleon Hill, in his famous work, Think and Grow Rich, writes: "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." But what does this mean? To excel in any exam, you need to become the master of your mind and body. This process involves setting clear goals, staying focused on the present moment, and actively managing negative thoughts.

1. Think Ahead

What would you do if I told you you have only three months to get every academic achievement you ever wanted? What would you work on, commit to and master in these three months? How would you become the best version of yourself to achieve the desired outcomes? Just think about all of these goals, take a pen, and write them down.

Most of us fail to get the accolades we want because we never really believe we can have them. Therefore, form a concrete goal and stick to it like your life depends on it. Plan all the way to it, taking into account all the possible consequences, obstacles, and twists, and break your study goals into smaller, manageable chunks. For example, instead of a general goal like “study for 13 hours,” set specific milestones, such as “complete the SAT textbook” or “finish 30 practice problems.”

Have prudence to see the dangers of your laziness in your future – if you want to have what you desire, you have to work smart and invest. Remember: the hard work always pays off.

Take the Quiz: Are you "Delulu"?

Are you grounded in reality, or letting your overthinking run the show?

2. Consistency Is The Key

In time of hardships, all we do is make excuses, not taking seriously what needs to be done. Just because you have a goal does not mean it will manifest into reality by the divine force – you are the creator and the energy should invested by you.

Your hard work is the key to your success, your sleepless nights are the key to your victory, and your determination and your tolerance of obstacles are key to your perseverance– when you stick to what you want, you develop a sense of confidence in your knowledge, the one that will not be shaken by the stress or unpredictability of the exam.

Therefore, without discipline, procrastination and distractions can easily derail progress. The consistency ensures that study sessions are productive, time is used efficiently, and goals are achieved. Ultimately, it builds good habits, strengthens self-control, and enables steady progress, leading to long-term success in learning.

3. Stay Physically and Mentally Healthy

A lot of people have a very twisted idea of hard work - the one that looks like the torture of the mind and the exploitation of the body. This idea is also what halts our progress and turns us into robots. Not every hard work is smart work – If you lose yourself in the work that you do, you start neglecting your well-being.

Therefore, get enough sleep, eat well; exercise and move your body. A well-balanced lifestyle will boost your mind’s power and cognitive function, helping you to get stuff done quickly and without much effort.

4. Reward Yourself

The process of hustle makes us so absorbed in the endless goals that we forget the celebration of everyday tasks. Not to sound old-fashioned, but over my school years, I learned that every day should be a celebration of yourself, your hard work, your resolution and your beautiful soul.

We get so stressed about exams and tests that sometimes we forget how lucky we are that we have work to do. We have our minds to work on, we have books to read and we have resources to make ourselves better, and smarter - acing an exam is not only mastering its subject, but also mastering yourself. Therefore, set small milestones for yourself -celebrate your small achievements and give yourself frequent opportunities to reward yourself.

In the end, mastering the art of studying is not just about putting in hours of effort—it's about working smart, staying disciplined, and maintaining a positive mindset. By setting clear goals, creating a structured plan, eliminating distractions, and reviewing regularly, you equip yourself to succeed. Incorporating rewards into your routine helps keep motivation high, making the process more enjoyable and less overwhelming.

Remember, consistency and reflection are key in the journey to mastering your mind and achieving academic success. With the right mindset, discipline, and strategies, victory is within your reach.
