Euphoria Season 3: What We Know So Far About The Next Chapter

It feels like an eternity since Euphoria season 2 aired. The show has had many scandals, controversies, and even tragedies since the last season, and challenging factors have forced the production to pause multiple times. After three long years of waiting, the fans have an important question—will Euphoria season 3 ever arrive? Well, the answer is yes, so long as filming goes according to plan.

Euphoria was previously scheduled to return in 2025, as HBO and Max’s Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys announced during a November 2023 presentation to the press—but due to the writers’ strike and Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s drama show The Idol (which caused a big controversy and got cancelled after the first season), that was not the case. The chaos got to the point when false rumors of Euphoria’s cancellation circulated online, and many believed the show would never return.

After that, on July 12, 2024, HBO’s EVP of programming, Francesca Orsi, made a statement: “I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.’’ This statement finally gave some hope to the fans who have been plotting and making up theories about the upcoming season.

On February 10, A24, which also produces the series, confirmed that production had launched—and shared a first-look image of Zendaya, back in her role as Rue. HBO is now anticipating a 2026 premiere.

So, what do we know about the actual plot? We know that the whole season will have eight episodes and will mainly explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world. Zendaya hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that season 3 could explore the characters’ lives beyond high school, either as seniors looking toward the future or as graduates.

“I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school,” she told the outlet. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense that they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.”

Levinson told Elle last August that he saw the third season of Euphoria as a "film noir," but more details about the actual plot have been kept under wraps. We do know that the majority of the primary cast—which includes Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Storm Reid—will be returning.

Moreover, in the third season, we are expected to see new characters and say goodbye to some old ones. Spanish superstar Rosalía is set to join the cast as well as A Different World's Kadeem Hardison and Super Bowl Champion Marshawn Lynch. "Euphoria has been my favorite series of the last few years, and I couldn't be happier and more grateful to be acting alongside all these colleagues that I admire so much and contributing my 'granito de arena' to bring Sam's vision to reality. I can't wait to share what we're doing!’’ wrote Rosalia in her statement.

Unfortunately, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat in the first two seasons of the show, has departed from the show, with the reason rumoured to be a conflict with Levinson. Angus Cloud, a cast member of Euphoria, will also not be returning for season three—This summer, the 25-year old actor who famously portrayed popular drug dealer Fez passed away from an unintentional overdose, leaving cast members and the fanbase heartbroken.

Despite the official announcement that season 3 is in development, we are still not sure whether or not it's the last season of the show. In an interview with Deadline published in February 2025, HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi, shared that the Euphoria team had “talked about” ending with season 3. “I don’t think anything is over until it’s over, but it’s been discussed that this is the end,” she said. “I think you will be very satisfied with this season and how we bring each of the characters’ whole narrative.”

Well, here is everything we know so far about the series. What are you most excited to see? Share it in the comments.
