Nowdays AI tools are evolving fast, and two of the top names right now are ChatGPT and DeepSeek. While ChatGPT has been the gold standard for a while, DeepSeek, an open-source, rising star has quietly stepped in with some seriously impressive features.
As someone who uses both tools almost daily for writing, programming, studying, and content creation, I thought I’d share my real experience, not a generic AI-generated comparison.
Let’s break it down by what really matters.

DeepSeek Is Surprisingly Strong, Especially for Bangla (My native language)
If you're using AI for writing, like I do, you'll notice this right away:
DeepSeek’s writing feels more natural, especially in native languages like Bangla.
I’ve written articles and paragraphs in Bangla using both, and DeepSeek just gets it. It understands the structure, the rhythm, the human tone, as if a real person wrote it. ChatGPT, even in GPT-4 mode, often sounds robotic or like a translated script when writing Bangla.
In English, ChatGPT is still great especially for creative work, casual blog writing, or formal pieces. But DeepSeek can keep up here too. It's just that sometimes, in English, DeepSeek's tone is a little too formal or AI-like compared to ChatGPT’s flow.
Verdict: DeepSeek wins for Bangla and multilingual tone. ChatGPT wins for casual, creative English writing.

2. Programming & Development: ChatGPT Still Rules
When it comes to programming, ChatGPT is my daily driver.
From debugging backend Express code to styling a React component with Tailwind, ChatGPT understands full-stack logic really well. It keeps context across prompts, suggests better variable names, and writes readable code.
DeepSeek is also strong, Especially for short snippets or algorithm-based logic. But in my experience, it sometimes fails to connect context across multiple prompts. It's more of a “quick code generator” than a full assistant.
Verdict: ChatGPT is more helpful for real-world development, debugging, and large codebases.
3. Speed & UX: ChatGPT Is Smoother, But Not Always Faster
Let’s talk about speed.
ChatGPT is usually faster for generating responses and it feels more polished. The interface is smooth, the chat history is easy to use, and features like “Custom GPTs,” plugins, voice, and memory are big wins.
DeepSeek, on the other hand, can lag, Especially when using DeepThink R1 mode (more on that below). The interface is clean but barebones, and you often have to toggle modes to get better answers. That can feel a bit clunky.
However, DeepSeek is more lightweight, It loads quickly and feels snappy for short tasks.
Verdict: ChatGPT is better for UX and consistency. DeepSeek is faster for quick, simple prompts.
4. Math, Physics & Chemistry: DeepSeek’s DeepThink R1 Mode is a Game-Changer
One area where DeepSeek blew my mind is academic problem-solving especially in math, physics, and chemistry.
When you switch to DeepThink R1 mode, DeepSeek takes longer to respond, but the answers are far more accurate, well-explained, and often better than ChatGPT's normal responses. It solves equations step by step, handles derivations cleanly, and rarely gives misleading answers.
ChatGPT, even with GPT-4, sometimes gives incorrect or slightly off calculations. It's faster, yes, but you may have to fact-check more often.
This makes a huge difference for students or anyone doing academic work. I’d rather wait a few extra seconds for a correct, detailed answer than get a fast but wrong one.
Verdict: DeepSeek (DeepThink R1) wins for academic accuracy.
5. The Annoying Bit: Having to Manually Set DeepThink R1

One thing I genuinely don’t like about DeepSeek is that you have to switch modes to get its full potential.
If you forget to set it to DeepThink R1, the responses can be underwhelming. This extra step is annoying, Especially when you're multitasking. It’d be better if DeepSeek just used the best model by default or adapted based on prompt type.
With ChatGPT, you don’t have to worry about that, it just works out of the box.
Verdict: DeepSeek’s mode switching can break the flow.
6. Translation & Multilingual Support: DeepSeek Has an Edge in Native Feel
For translating or writing in Bangla, DeepSeek clearly outshines ChatGPT.
I’ve tried translating essays, short stories, and social posts between English and Bangla, and DeepSeek makes it feel native. The sentence structure, idioms, and emotional tone are way better. It doesn’t feel like a word-for-word translation, It feels human.
Even after raw translation I gave both ChatGPT and DeepSeek a sample of my writing to understand the tune. But still DeepSeek did better than ChatGPT.
ChatGPT still does a decent job, but it’s usually more mechanical, and sometimes misses cultural tone or context.
Verdict: DeepSeek wins for translation and native-language fluency.
7. Cost & Access
Another big win for DeepSeek: it’s free and open-source.
You can access advanced models, including DeepThink R1, without needing a subscription. That’s huge — especially for students or developers on a budget.

ChatGPT’s GPT-4 is behind a paywall ($20/month). It’s worth it for many users, but still, it’s not free.
Verdict: DeepSeek is better for open access.
Final Verdict: Which One Should You Use?
Honestly, it depends on what you need. Here’s how I break it down:

My Closing Thoughts
I use both tools, and I genuinely like both for different reasons.
If I’m writing a blog post, I start with ChatGPT.
If I’m solving a tough math problem or writing in Bangla, I go to DeepSeek (with DeepThink R1 on).
If I’m coding, debugging, or building something full-stack, ChatGPT gets the job done faster.
They each have strengths, and they complement each other well.

In short:
ChatGPT = better all-round assistant.
DeepSeek = free, accurate, and native-language friendly powerhouse.
