And with the long winter days coming in soon, it seems like the ideal time to take advantage and redecorate or even full-on renovate a cozy little reading nook. Papasan Reading Chair

Papasan Reading Chairs are great options for readers who change their sitting position every few chapters. The frame is wide enough to support all positions such as crossed-leg sitters, lounging across the cushions, sideway sitters, and more. Some are also wide enough to fit two people on the chair at the same time.

It can be a great option for when you want to read beside your friend or pet. The cushions are thick and the curl and the depth of the chair provides a nest-like feeling, further enhancing the comfort of the chair.

They come in a variety of colors as well; from yellow to pink, the choice is up to you! Papasan Reading Chairs are easibly movable and fit perfectly into small spaces, living rooms, and reading nooks. You can decorate the chair with other pillows or comforters. As a chair, it is very versatile and can be used for things other than reading like watching TV or just lounging as well.

Papasan Reading Chairs are also affordable, for those who are looking for seating options that are more cost-efficient. Some online shopping sites like Amazon has prices starting from $48 and ranges all the way over $100.

Reading Pillow

If you're like me, then you're definitely a person who absolutely loves to read on their bed. I would rest against my pillows or stuffed animals for hours while reading and always end up with a sore neck or back. So last Christmas, I found the perfect alternative for a “chair on the bed”.

Reading Pillows help maintain that perfect posture during your time in bed as it aligns your back and neck in a natural position. They are filled with different types of materials such as feathers/down, solid foam, and cotton, so you'll be able to choose a pillow that suits your preference. Similar to Papasan Chairs, they also come in a variety of colors and sizes. While mine has a height that stops just a little below my neck, other pillows include head rests.

Another highlight of a reading pillow is that it has arm rests (unlike Papasan Chairs) which you can use as an actual arm rest or lay your head on while you read. Like Papasan Chairs, reading pillows also have a variety of uses like studying in bed.

While they might not seem to add much to your reading space, Reading Pillows are very cost-effective-small pillows starting from about $20 to large pillows maxing up to nearly $50-and comfortable. And since they only take space up on the bed, you can take this chance to fill your reading nook with other things.

Loveseat Sofa

Before moving on from seating options, I'd like to review a larger seating option for the readers who enjoy having more space. Although the Loveseat Sofa isn't as cost-effective as the Papasan Chair or Reading Pillow, they are more affordable than most full-sized sofas.

Loveseats are perfect for small spaces as they take up less space than a full-sized sofa. Even in their small size, two or more people could sit comfortably-perfect for reading with friends or pets! Loveseats come in many different colors and sizes such as yellow or even purple.

Along with sizes and colors, let's take some time to appreciate the different styles of Loveseats. Loveseat collections range from modern to traditional to rustic styles, so you can choose any one that suits the aesthetic of your room!

Much larger than a reading pillow or Papapsan chair, Loveseats are still more afforable than standard sofas. Prices begin from $165 and can range over $1,000.

Now that I've covered some basic seating options, here are some lighting options to give your cozy library a glow!

Floor and Table Lamps

These basic lamps might be the perfect option to “light up” your reading nook. Floor lamps can be placed near your reading seat, illuminating the pages far better than a ceiling light might. Some also offer dimming options and adjustable arms, so you can customize them according to your personal preferences.

Perhaps not as aesthetic, floor lamps still complete their tasks and come in a variety of colors and styles. Prices can range from $20 to $3000.

If you’re considering getting a side table or coffee table, table lamps are perfect add-ons or aesthetic pieces. While it may be for sight appeal, table lamps could also improve visuals when other light sources are too far away. Choices of color and style could be popping or complement the rest of the room. Prices range from $13 to $200.

LED/Fairy Lights

A more “aesthetic” option for lighting is LED lights or fairy lights. Though they can be viewed as decorative pieces rather than actual light sources, LED and fairy lights illuminate the room and provide a warm glow that is both homely and functional. LED lights can be purchased with a variety of color options and styles. For instance, there are LED light strips that can be hung just below the ceiling or vines that can be taped against the wall.

Though fairy lights might not come in a larger variety of colors, they are still very cute and can be hung with fake vines, adding a whimsical touch to the room.

These light options are more inexpensive than floor lamps ranging from prices starting at $3 to $23.

While I only covered a few basic, comfortable options, you can always explore and find furniture pieces that appeal to you. Choose things that hold more volume to you.

Fluffy Rugs, Blankets, and Pillows

Chairs and lights hold the reading experience together, but nothing screams “comfortable” without the piles of blankets throw pillows on your chairs or beds. Or even a cute fluffy rug to lie on or just use as a decorative design.

This is a simple, but cozy decoration and extremely cost-efficient; you can either use whatever you have at home or buy something new to your choice.

Cute throw pillows might add color and a bit of personality if you plan on buying seating options that are basic in color. Rugs do the same while also providing a bit of comfort on those days when you want to do nothing but lounge on the floor. Blankets are the definition of comfort in reading environments.

There isn’t a day that doesn’t go by when I’m not under the covers. Having the perfect texture of fabric and color highlights warmth and security and even adds to the all-appealing aesthetic.

Plants and Atmosphere

Whether you’re a fan of them or not, there is no denying the homey atmosphere plants bring in. Having a touch of greenery could elevate vibrancy through bright colors. Your room could feel more alive and real. If taking care of live plants is a problem, there’s always the option of buying fake plants, though, it might diminish the “natural” feeling they bring.

Speaking of creating the perfect atmosphere, have you ever considered changing or improving your background noise?

While reading, I always seem to have three moods when it comes to background noise: total silence, favourite songs blasting through my phone, or nature sounds filling my room. Maybe you like the peace silence brings after a long day and might want to bring out those noise-canceling headphones you’ve been holding onto. There are also those times when silence is the exact opposite of what you need and vibing to songs helps you focus and lock into the storyline.

Birds chirping, ocean waves, crackling fire, and rain sounds are great options to consider for serene reading times. Classical music and lo-fi beats are also easily findable on platforms such as Youtube or Spotify for alternatives.

Either way, considering your background noise might also improve your reading experience by a lot.

Coffee Table

A coffee table might be the perfect add-on to your reading nook because it gives you a place to place your favourite drink or store books, magazines, or other small essentials. And a larger area might be more favorable compared to side tables.

Some coffee tables have compartments within them, so you can store your belongings in them without taking up space on bookshelves. There are a wide variety of styles and sizes you can buy them in, so the choice is up to you! If you want a larger space to walk around in, you might want to consider a small coffee table.

If a tidy setup is important, you could consider getting yourself a larger table. Prices range from $35 to $2,000.

While it’s a practical option, coffee tables also add more to your style depending on how you choose a table-from rustic to antique, it could speak more volumes into the kind of vibe you enjoy or want to embody.

Bookshelves

The most obvious of choices for a reading nook. Investing in a couple of bookshelves might be a good thought. They’re practical and basically designed to store your books. You can add onto them with elements of photographs or souvenirs.

Like all pieces of furniture, bookshelves are also sold in a variety of styles and colors, so you’ll be able to choose one or two that you like. Prices range from $30 to $2,500.

Make it Your Own!

Everyone has different opinions and personalities they want their room to exhibit. I’ve mentioned what I preferred a few times in the article and it could be exactly the same or totally different from yours. Ultimately, to make your reading space the “perfect” reading space is to make it your own.

Add yourself into the walls and the furniture. Personalize with your posters of favourite singers or actors or artwork. Fill it with photographs of happy memories. Light candles or wave lavender fragrances if you want to. Add items that speak more to your personality and aesthetic.
