Mod Style is a 1960s, youth-driven fashion phenomenon from London that rebelled against more traditional and conservative styles. In the 60s, Mod Style featured short skirts, sleeveless shirts, and high boots. Men wore ultra-skinny ties and pointed-toe boots. Whenever this style comes to mind, there are two images: patent leather go-go boots and super short skirts and dresses. Some popular looks included:
- Turtlenecks, mini skirts, and knee-high boots.
- Shift dresses, tights, and patent leather go-go boots.
- Patent leather trench coats, jumpers, and boots.
Mod style has always been classic. In fact, it inspired many of today's fashion trends, including A-line style dresses and skirts, knee-high boots (although they might not be patent leather all the time), and even blue jeans. It also brought mini skirts and dresses into style, which remain a popular trend today. The main goal of this style is to look chic and classic in a luxurious way.

Mod Trend Icons
Mod Style has two main icons: Jackie Kennedy and Emily Gilmore. Both pair feminine suit sets with classic heels and boots. These suits are typically created from lavish materials, such as tweed.
Also, the suits feature knee-length skirts, which were considered mini skirts in Jackie Kennedy's time. Between fitted blazers, low (but not revealing) necklines, and a-line skirts, these suits are the epitome of feminine. They both also wear colors, with Jackie Kennedy having more neutral and pastel patterns, and Emily Gilmore branching out into shades of bright pink and sparkly materials.
Jackie Kennedy specifically worked with Chanel, causing her to be the face of Chanel during her time. Her suit sets from Chanel were absolutely iconic - although Chanel was already popular, she made their brand more valuable. Another major part of Jackie Kennedy's style was her accessories.
During her time as the First Lady, Jackie Onassis Kennedy started the big sunglasses trend. Companies even make specific “Jackie O” style glasses today.

How This Trend is Coming Back in Style
Since mod style was created, it has always been present in fashion. Although it took a backseat to other trends, such as the eighties style or Y2K, there were still elements of this style incorporated into fashion. For example, Y2K involved a ton of mini skirts, which originated with mod style.
In recent years, we have seen a rise in luxury items, such as the Chanel classic flap purse, which has become a major trend on social media. Since these chic designs have come back into style, people have been looking to the past for inspiration on how to style them. Another reason that mod style is making a comeback is through working with women on social media.
I'm sure we have all seen the “Day in the Life of a Lawyer” or “Outfit of the Day at my summer internship” videos on our TikTok for your pages. The creators of these videos have been seen in the classic mod-style feminine suit or knee-high boots paired with a-line skirts and turtlenecks. The rise in popularity of these videos has influenced how people dress, along with bringing back mod style.
Mod style is making a comeback in the winter months because of the layering that it involves. Between the tights, knee-high boots, and car coats, this style is perfect for colder winter months.
After the rise of the TikTok videos (featuring mod style) this summer, people are upgrading their wardrobes to match this trend, allowing them to pair these elements together for winter. Also, lots of designers have been taking traditional design elements into consideration with their new Fall Fashion Week 2024 collections, displaying the rise in the mod trend.

How You Can Sport Mod Style
You can start featuring this classic style in your every day looks very easily. For example, you could pair sheer black tights with a black micro mini skirt. You could also wear a pair of white corduroy jeans and a black turtleneck. If you are headed to an internship, you could try out a winter-toned skirt suit.
Another way to subtly incorporate mod style into your outfits is to pick up a classic flap bag. This bag could come from any brand (if you have been eyeing up a Chanel, the holidays are right around the corner). If you want a versatile bag, you could buy a neutral-colored purse that can match any outfit. No matter what purse you choose, flap bags are an easy way to upgrade your outfits.

Shopping For Mod Style Pieces
Black Friday is just a few days away, so run to your local mall to pick up mini skirts, knee-high boots, turtlenecks, and tights. If you want to stay inside after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday will have a lot of great online sales as well. Some great stores for shift dresses are Abercrombie and Fitch, Madewell, Free People, and Urban Outfitters.
One great store to look at for mod-style pieces is J. Crew. J. Crew is known for its timeless style (and high-quality items), so looking through its stores and/or website would be a great way to find some of these pieces.
Nordstroms and Bloomingdale are great places to check as well. These stores are a collection of a ton of different brands, so there will definitely be some mod-style pieces in their stores or websites. Also, both department stores carry high-quality brands, so the pieces that you buy will be sure to last for a while.
Mod style is timeless, so you can easily justify investing in pieces now, such as the Chanel flap bag, two-piece feminine suit, or Jackie O sunglasses. However, if you do not want to spend too much money, there are other great options as well. One other place to check is Amazon. Amazon has a ton of affordable and chic options for accessories as well as clothing, so be sure to search their website on Cyber Monday.
