Halloween is slowly creeping up on us (get it?). Soon, cobwebs will dangle from bare branches and slender skeletons will haunt doorways. Even if you feel you've outgrown the trick-or-treating tradition, it's always fun watching a scary movie, eating some candy, and, most importantly, getting into costume! On that note, here are some unique and easily achievable Halloween costume ideas!

1. Wordplay

Get punny with a Halloween costume that is sure to make your friends laugh! My personal favorite is “deviled egg”, which you can create with an egg costume (or just a yellow circle on a white t-shirt), devil ears, and a trident.

Another fun one that might be popular among Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway fans is “The Devil Wears Prada”. Fashion yourself some devil accessories and either strut your stuff with real Prada accessories or write PRADA across a plain t-shirt.

If you love Disney and food, “Taco Belle” might be perfect for you. A yellow dress and elegant updo will quickly turn you into the popular bookworm princess, but instead of carrying around books, carry around tacos! The best part is you'll have a snack with you wherever you go.

2. Emoji

If you decide to be an emoji this Halloween, there is an endless list to choose from! Popular choices are the dancing girl and facial expressions, but you could also bring the more random ones to life, like the moon face, or find a friend and together become the “people with bunny ears”.

Last Halloween, Swifties celebrated Taylor Swift's Eras Tour with bracelets running up their arms and glitter dusting their faces. Now, with the release of The Tortured Poet's Department, there's a whole new album for Swifties to take inspiration from.

Chappell Roan's upbeat songs and personality have overflown the internet. The star always goes all out with her performance fits; it's as if she's just waiting for costumes to be made out of them.

Sabrina Carpenter is another pop star with a glamorous wardrobe that would be very fun to recreate. You can easily mirror her look with curtain bangs, a cute minidress, and a microphone.

4. Inside Out 2

This movie had teenagers everywhere resonating with the main character Riley. With a little face paint, you can transform yourselves into some of the new emotions we haven't yet seen on the streets during Halloween: Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, Envy, or even the adorable Nostalgia.

5. Wicked

The beloved Wicked musical is full of mythical creatures fit for Halloween, from witches to fairies to munchkins. We're all anticipating the release of the new Wicked movie starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo! Instead of resorting to a basic witch costume, whip yourself into Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, with some green face paint and black clothing. You can easily turn this into a duo costume, with one person dressing as Elphaba and the other as Glinda the Good.

6. Bridgerton

If you love extravagant gowns or fancy suits, you'll definitely enjoy dressing up as one of the characters from this popular Netflix drama. There's no better excuse to channel your inner prince or princess!

7. Mabel Mora from Only Murders in the Building

The outfits worn by Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) in the hit Hulu show Only Murders in the Building are not only super cute but perfect for fall, with the character rocking warm red and orange tones and plaid garments for much of the show. One of her most notable ensembles was crafted from a full-flushed orange color palette, with an orange fur jacket, cozy yellow sweater, plaid pants, orange beanie, red headphones, and chunky boots. You could probably use some of the chic pieces even after Halloween!

8. Minions

Match with your friends this Halloween and become everyone's favorite short, google-eyed yellow creatures! This costume is a quick DIY. All you need is a yellow T-shirt and a pair of denim overall shorts, but if you wish to really play into the character, add some yellow face paint.

9. Elmo and Cookie Monster

Another great duo costume idea is to dress as these red and blue puppets from Sesame Street. You don't necessarily need to deck out in furry onesies, though.

When I attempted this costume with my friend a couple of years ago, we both decided on black flare pants and a headband for our character purchased from Amazon, plus a red or blue fluffy boa.
